Some Features and Data:

When starting to design the ExCam IPM3014, the main objective was to develop a cheap explosion proof camera for hazardous areas without sacrificing quality standards. At the end of this developmental process we are now proud to present the most compact and cheap network camera of its performance class:

Aluminum or stainless steel?

Identical in its technical functions, the ExCam IPM3014 can be manufactured with two different housing materials.

A lightweight which is also economical:

The ExCam IPM3014 in our aluminum housing only weighs 1,900 g and does not even cost 2,000 €.
Solid and media resistant: The ExCam IPM3014 in the stainless steel housing only weighs 2,200 g. This means that our camera weighs only about a tenth of comparable cameras! Not only due to reducing the required material but also to the innovative 3D printing technology used for creating the mounting adapter, we are able to offer the ExCam IPM3014 in the stainless steel enclosure for right below 2,500 €!

Ultra-compact thanks to innovative 3D-printing technology

Innovative 3D printing methods currently break the well-known rules of mechanical designs! Limits which used to exist in the classical sheet metal construction do not exist for 3D printing! We took advantage of this development also when designing the inside of the ExCam IPM3014: A highly resistant and electrically insulating 3D-plastic adapter hosts in just one component the web server circuit board, the CMOS sensor, the lens as well as the temperature controller! Due to this, less space is required and installation times are reduced in comparison to regular sheet metal designs so that the total costs are reduced as well.

No movable parts

The ExCam IPM3014 does not have any electromechanical components: The lens with its fixed focal length is set in focus prior to the delivery. The CMOS sensor delivers multiple video streams in HD resolution (720p) and can be zoomed and controlled electronically (ePTZ). Hence, there is no necessity anymore to open the housing.

Temperature management

With regard to its temperature management, the ExCam IPM3014 also sets new standards: The heating system disposes of a double control. On the one hand, the newly developed temperature controller ensures that even at -60°C the camera remains free of ice but does not overheat in when the temperatures increase. And in addition, the PTC element prevents the camera to overheat in case a malfunction occurs! These procedures, checked and approved by the German TÜV, allow us to securely use the camera within a temperature range of -60°C to +50°C. And the best part of this heating concept: The camera’s as well as the heating’s load circuit are included in just one cable!

Reduced installation costs & Power over Ethernet (PoE)

A particularity of the ExCam IPM3014 is that the data streams as well as the power is transmitted via a single cable which means that for the installation within the safe area, only a PoE switch or a PoE midspan is required.
As the power supply of the camera is executed via Power over Ethernet (PoE according to IEEE 802.3af) via the network, no costly installation of a separate power supply is required.

Small and cheap blast proof camera housing - great resolution (HD)

With its length of just 158 mm and a diameter of only 79 mm, the ExCam IPM3014 is smaller than some camera models for safe areas – but with more powerful functions.
Thanks to its progressive scan function, the ExCam IPM3014 is capable of making high-resolution images of moving objects with up to 30 frames per second: Without motion blur! The ExCam IPM3014 also delivers sharp images in HD resolution. Multiple H.264 video streams as well as Motion JPEG streams simultaneously - either in full frame rate or individually optimized for different quality and bandwidth requirements.

Ethernet cables for hazardous area

Our network cable is specifically designed for hazardous areas.! It is, thanks to the polyurethane coating, mechanically extremely robust and also UV resistant and flame retardant according to DIN EN 60079-14. Due to the great wire size (AWG 22) and the shielded Cat6e twisted pairs even greater distances can easily be overcome!

Multiple certifications for hazardous areas

The ExCam series is certified according to European regulations (ATEX) as well as international ones (IECEx) and the Russian custom-union (EAC-Ex). The housings’ certification comprises ATEX group I (mining) with a low risk of mechanical threat and ATEX group II (Gas and Dust) for zone 1, 2 as well as 21 and 22 including the explosion groups IIC / IIIC with a high risk of mechanical threat. In accordance with the requirements of the impact and free-fall tests (DIN EN 60079: 0 2012), the housings are suitable for fixed as well as mobile applications!

Media resistance and seals

Due to the high-quality materials used for the ExCam Series, it meets the requirements of a comprehensive media resistance list! It is also possible to freely select different stainless steel alloys to reflect the best execution for your application. Even a coating or powder coating of the housing is feasible to realize individual media resistance requirements.
The particularly designed GYLON (PTFE) flat sealing does not only ensure the housing to be watertight (IP68) but also supports the resistance towards several chemicals (a media resistance list is available upon request). The extremely robust and scratch-proof as well as high-impact resistant borosilicate glass fits perfectly into the high-quality materials of the housing body.

Mining

As one of the first pressure-tight camera protection systems, the ExCam Series meets all requirements for mines (environments susceptible of fire damps) and is certified according to ATEX/IECEx and EAC-Ex for equipment group I Mb. If the ExCam Series is used in mining environments with a low risk of mechanical damages, it is not even necessary to equip the housing with an additional device in order to protect the borosilicate glass! The ExCam Series thus allows for the first time the safe use of portable and stationary surveillance equipment underground.

Portable & stationary use

In accordance with the requirements of the impact and free-fall tests (DIN EN 60079: 0 2012); the ExCam Series is also approved as a portable device.

Benefits of digital network video surveillance

An IP network video surveillance system offers numerous advantages and special features. Among other things, benefits include remote access, high image quality, event management, intelligent video capabilities, easy integration possibilities, better scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency.
• Remote access
• High image quality
• Event management and intelligent video
• Easy, safe and sustainable integration
• Scalability and flexibility
• Cost efficiency

Remote access

Network cameras and video encoders can be accessed and configured remotely so that via our browser-based video management software SAMCONtrol®, multiple authorized users can watch live video images and video recordings at any time and from any networked location worldwide.  This is an advantage in case you want to grant users of other companies, e.g. of a security company, access to the video images as well.

High image quality

For video surveillance applications, a high image quality is essential in order to be able to clearly identify involved persons or objects. With its progressive scan and megapixel technology, the ExCam IPM3014 offers a much better image quality as well as a higher resolution than any analog CCTV camera. In addition, it is much easier to ensure the image quality in an IP network than in an analog system.
For the current analog systems using a DVR as a recording device, numerous data conversions from analog to digital and vice versa take place: First the camera converts the analog signals into digital data, afterwards they are re-converted to analog signals to allow transmission. Subsequently, the analog signals are re-digitalized again for recording. Each conversion procedure as well as the cable’s signal attenuation influences the image quality. The greater the transmission distance of these analog signals is, the weaker the signal becomes. In a fully digital IP-Surveillance system, images from a network camera are digitized only once and they then remain in the digital format. As a result, not only unnecessary conversions are avoided but also image degradation due to long transmission distances in a network will not occur. In addition, digital images can be stored and retrieved more easily than it is possible with analog videotapes.

Event management and intelligent video

Often, an excessive amount of video data is recorded and there is not enough time available to analyze it properly. Advanced network cameras and video encoders with integrated intelligence or analysis functions solve this problem by reducing irrelevant video recordings as well as by initiating pre-programmed actions. Such functions are not available for analog systems. The ExCam IPM3014 offers integrated functions such as video motion detection, active tampering alarm, and alarm and event management functions. Using these features makes the network cameras and video encoders capable of continuously analyzing the input data in order to detect events and to respond automatically – e.g. by starting a video recording and sending alarm notifications. Event management functions can be set via the user interface or the network video software. Users can define the alarms or events by the used trigger and specify the time period in which the event has to be active. Furthermore, the actions can be configured (e.g. recording of one or more locations, locally and / or at remote locations, activation of external devices such as sirens, lights and door opener, sending notifications to users).

Easy, safe and sustainable integration

Network video products based on open standards can be integrated simply in combination with video management and application software.

Scalability and flexibility

A network video system can grow with the needs of its users. For IP-based systems, many network cameras and video encoders as well as other types of applications can use the same wired or wireless network for data exchange. Therefore a variable number of network video products can be added to the system without the need for extensive or expensive changes to the network infrastructure. In an analog system this is not possible as for such systems a particularly designed coaxial cable must be wired directly from each camera to a display / recording station. In comparison, network video products can be virtually placed in any location and incorporated into any network; being more or less open or even strictly protected.

Cost Efficiency

An IP-Surveillance system typically has lower total operating costs than a conventional analog CCTV system. In most cases, an IP network infrastructure does already exist so that a network video application can be easily integrated into the existing infrastructure.  Wired or wireless networking solutions are also much cheaper than coaxial and fiber optic cable used for analog CCTV systems. The administrative as well as the equipment costs are lower as back-end storage applications as well as storage systems can be carried out on non- proprietary standard server as supposed to manufacture specific hardware such as a DVR. Data and power supply are combined in only one cable. The only equipment you need to connect the camera in the safe area is a PoE switch or PoE midspan.
